AWS offers many capabilities for scientific computing and research workloads of every science discipline. We will look at real-world examples of researchers achieving scientific discoveries in the AWS cloud. We will demonstrate tools that make it easy and quick for anyone to fire up an HPC cluster in the Cloud, for example using CfnCluster or Alces Flight Cluster. We will also discuss novel approaches to perform HPC tasks such as containers and serverless computing using AWS Lambda and AWS Batch services. Finally, we will look at the ways AWS specifically supports the academic community, presenting programs such as the Research Cloud Program and the Open Data Program.

He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Antwerp (Belgium) and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Washington in Seattle, the EPFL in Lausanne, and the Universität Zürich. Kevin joined Amazon in 2015 to help accelerate the adoption of cloud computing in the scientific community globally. He engages with scientists in various disciplines, and represents AWS in academic-industry partnerships such as the Berkeley RISElab and the NSF BigData Hubs.
