What is the role of cultural heritage in the promotion of sustainable development? How can safeguarding the world’s heritage help promote the goal of making cities inclusive, resilient, and sustainable? These are some of the questions that will be tackled in this talk.
 
This event is part of the agenda of the September Heritage Month celebrated in Colombia. The talk will be preceded by an introduction by the scholar Maria Eugenia Beltrán, Colombian architect and urban planner and member of ICOMOS Colombia and the ICOMOS Sutainable Development Working Group.

Conferencista

Dr. Ege Yildirim

Dr. Ege Yildirim is an urban planner specializing in heritage conservation and management, with over 20 years of experience working in Turkey and internationally. She previously worked at KA-BA Architecture Ltd (Ankara) and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage (UAE). She obtained her MA in Conservation at the University of York (1999) and her PhD in Social Environmental Sciences at Ankara University (2012). She was a Fulbright Scholar (Pratt Institute, New York City, 2006-07), and a Senior Fellow for Archaeological Site Management at Koç University (Istanbul, 2013-14). She is currently the ICOMOS Focal Point for the Sustainable Development Goals, member of ISoCaRP and board member of ICOMOS Turkey and Europa Nostra Turkey. Based in Istanbul since 2013, she is an independent consultant/ part-time instructor, and since 2015, Heritage Site Manager of the Historic Guild Town of Mudurnu (Turkey), a UNESCO World Heritage candidate.
