Master’s in Social Studies

Master’s in Social Studies

The purpose of the Master’s in Social Studies program at Universidad del Rosario is to incentivize interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. This goal is achieved through dialogue and the ongoing interactions between anthropology, sociology, and history, as well as those with other social sciences fields. Focus is put on understanding and analyzing different social issues at national, global, regional, and local levels.

The program offers a flexible curricular structure with emphasis on contemporary approaches to issues-based social research.

Students also have the opportunity to complete a minor in Social Studies in Science and Technology.
During the first year, students become familiar with contemporary theoretical and methodological debates in the Social Sciences, which are approached from a perspective that goes beyond traditional disciplinary limits, and design a research project under the guidance of an advisor. They are also expected to take part in projects undertaken by School of Human Sciences research groups, by joining one of them as researcher-in-training. During the second year, students work to develop the empirical stage of their research proposal through the development of qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methodologies, then conduct analysis and present the results obtained in their thesis.
