Workshop HPC – Summer School 2019

3-day Workshop of seminars + 1 "challenge" day in which the participants will develop the necessary basic skills to program in HPC environments (high performance computing).

 


Addressed to

Professionals and students of engineering, science and mathematics, with basic knowledge of programming and interest / need to learn to use the power of supercomputing to perform intensive numerical tasks in times much lower than those allowed by serial programming.


Objectives

General objectives

  • Present the basic concepts and some advanced topics of parallel programming, both on a single node and on multiple nodes.

Specific objectives
  • Understand the programming and execution environments.
  • Introduce the use of high level languages ​​in HPC environments.
  • Use parallel programming strategies and interfaces with shared memory in CPU.
  • Use parallel programming strategies and interfaces with shared memory in GPGPU.
  • Use parallel programming strategies and interfaces with distributed memory in CPU.


Methodology

Introductory lectures to each topic followed by workshops. At the end an exercise in the form of "challenge" will be presented so that the participants can develop it in groups.


Benefits

The knowledge acquired in the workshop will allow participants to write programs that take advantage of the capabilities of HPC technologies, so that they can solve bigger and more complex problems. These skills are essential today not only to effectively deal with problems in the academic environment, but also in the industrial and social environment.
