Learn how to become certified in actuarial science and become a member of the SOA

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) is the world's largest professional organization, with more than 30,000 actuarial members. Its mission is to promote the training and certification of actuaries as leaders in the assessment and management of risk, ultimately enhancing financial outcomes for individuals, organizations, and the public (Actuaries, 2021).

 

What is actuarial science?

Actuarial science involves the study of financial risks using statistical, mathematical, and business management methods. An actuary is a professional dedicated to solving complex financial problems and measuring and managing risks across various types of organizations. Actuaries are key professionals who provide timely information to business leaders to allow them to make the right decisions at the right time.

How to become an Associate
of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)?


During the training in the Finance and International Trade program, or through a focus or specialization in Finance, there is an extraordinary opportunity to progress in obtaining certifications along the ASA path. Upon completion of the undergraduate program, the “Foundations” and “Actuarial I” levels can be achieved, preparing individuals for exams related to the “Actuarial” level, attainable through a focus or specialization in Actuarial Science. The exams passed do not lose their validity.

To become an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), the following requirements must be successfully met:

Students from Universidad del Rosario have the possibility of progressing with the SOA through the recognition of courses corresponding to the Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) within the ASA career path:
